Autumn in Port Renfrew is when you might consider discovering some of the abundant fauna that exists here. Bears are heading to the rivers for salmon, Roosevelt Elk roam the valley floor and bird watching is very popular and this is a great time to surf, when the first serious waves start rolling in.

Additionally, you might consider a nice hike along a portion of the Juan de Fuca Trail or down some of the former rail lines and access roads that used to bring timber to Port Renfrew in its logging heyday. You can go beachcombing and explore the quiet waters of San Juan Sound and the San Juan River to view river otters, harbor seals, bald eagles and a variety of shore and seabirds.
